Good bye, 2016!

Hello!

It seems like the last post was in March of 2016. I am not sure if I will continue writing new blog posts -- these days, I am not really into writing casually, because that seems a chore, something I'd rather not do. It isn't because I am writing a lot these days -- it is out of sheer laziness, and because I now write only when I have to.

I write when it has a purpose, let's say.

Since the last post, I have walked from Simikot in Humla to the lake Mansarovar and around the Mount Kailash. I have walked at an altitude of 5,600 meters above sea level. I would like to cross the 6,000 meters mark sometime soon. That would be nice.

Went on a short jaunt to Panchase Danda, to the south-west of Pokhara. Photo:

Went on a 20-day trip to NYC, wrote some 16 thousand words while there. The stories will be part of a book being published by Varja Books in Kathmandu (on behalf of the India China Institute at the New School, and ICIMOD here in Nepal), edited by Kamla Kapur. Perhaps another book of folktales will also come out of this project. The stories were collected by research associates for the ICI, working in Humla of Nepal, Uttarakhand of India and Ngari Prefecture of Tibet. An intriguing exercise, for sure.

Got a story (Boy from Banauti, from TVA) and three translations published in House of Snow, an anthology of writing from and on Nepal. Finishing IB Rai's stories in translation, so, mayhaps, a few books in various forms in the first half of 2017, and then on with the novel!

Happy New Year! (Lindsay!) :)

Sneaky!

So - It has been years since I wrote here at all. The last post was about TVA - two years old now! I am sneaking in here, without letting anyone know. I doubt if anybody ever set an automatic link to this blog.

What have I been up to? My movie "Suntali" released, so some critical acclaim inside the country, and recognition at the Busan International Film Festival. TVA launched, mostly to critical, was shortlisted for the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize, but didn't win. I have finished teaching 7 semesters at KU Center for Art and Design. La.Lit has published 5 volumes so far, and the sixth is coming out soon. Six years of living in Sanepa. The earthquake, of course, the earthquake of 2015.

Working on a translation of Indra Bahadur Rai's short stories. Started off at a pretty pace, but now it is a mortal struggle.

Signed contract for a novel.

Translated an excerpt from Khagendra Sangroula's Junkiri ko Sangeet - that wasn't easy.

Went to Goa. Didn't go to Lahore.

Started living in Kumari Basti.

Here's a photo from Goa, of me and Tuan:

Here's another, of Tuan in Nepal, specifically, Tuan and Sushrut, with a stray dog, at the Saraswati temple in Budhanilkantha School.
  that is all for now!
